Colombia's fight for independence began on July 20, 1810, and ended on July 20, 1819, which is also their independence day. Colombian patriots disrupted the people in Bogotá which led to street protests against Spanish rule. The Viceroy was forced to agree to allow for limited independence which later became permanent.
