oct 20, 1905 - The Revolution of 1905

Description:

This was a revolution of the people as a result of Bloody Sunday. This caused massive strikes throughout the entire nation that crippled its production. In February, Nicholas II tried to make peace by promising a representative body that could advise the government, but the people would have none of it. On August 19, Nicholas II promised elections to this advisory body, which angered the people more, for the people wanted a constitutional monarchy. By October 20, most of the cities were on strike. This day was very important, for it contributed to the reason that Nicholas would agree to the constitution and the Duma. These strikes on this day are one of the largest reasons that change happened. These strikes would get the snowball rolling for what would be the Russian revolution. One of the results of this revolution was the creation of the soviets, of workers’ council. The first being created on May 11, 1905. These soviets represented the people and would be used in the future. The Mensheviks also had a large part in the revolution of 1905 as a whole and were crucial in this revolution. Finally, on October 30, 1905, the October Manifesto issued by Nicholas II said that a constitution would be created as well as Duma, or parliament.
