jul 28, 1914 - World War I

Description:

Often known as “The Great War,” this war was a global conflict that involved many countries and lasted from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918. This war was one of the things that led Russia to both revolutions of 1917. Already struggling with problems at home, Russia entered this war with very little resources and was very unprepared. Although it had a large army, the army was unequipped with little weaponry. Russia officially left the war in November 26, 1917, but many soldiers had given up long before that. The day was important, for this marked depressing defeat to Russians and angered the people of Russia. This war ruined Russia’s economy, for this war was not free and cost Russia lots of money. The people were angry that the Russians had not succeeded and blamed the leadership of Nicholas II for the devastating failure, economically and militarily. This day told the Russian people that their leadership had failed them and affirmed their beliefs that the revolution of October was necessary. This entire war spread seeds of anger through Russia and made the people of Russia believe that a revolution was necessary.
