feb 8, 1904 - The Russian and Japanese War

Description:

This was a Russian War with Japan from February 8, 1904 to September 5, 1905. Over disputes about splitting up Korea and China, Russia went to war with Japan beginning with a surprise Japanese naval attack of the Russian held Port Arthur. After Russian troops losing Shenyang, China and a Russian fleet being destroyed, it had become clear to the Russians that they had underestimated this new world power. US President Theodore Roosevelt facilitated a peace treaty with the two nations on September 5, 1905. February 8, 1904 was probably the day when this war was most influential to the revolution. This was the day where Russia made the decision to attack Japan. If Russia hadn't attacked Japan, the people would not have been angry at leadership of Russia for losing this war. The people would be less angry. However, because Russia did attack Japan, people began to be angry with the leadership. This is one of the largest reasons that they wanted revolutionary change. This war left Russians feeling angrier than ever and made them believe that more needed to be done to remove Nicholas II from leadership. This partially sparked the Revolution of 1905. After seeing their military destroyed over the past few years, Russians were angry and wanted change.
