mar 14, 1794 - Invention of the Cotton Gin
Description:
Created in 1793 and patented in 1794 the cotton gin revolutionized and transformed not just agriculture but the American economy. Invented by Eli Whitney, it exponentially increased the production of usable cotton. It did this by changing the way seeds would be removed from the plant. Before the gin, seed removal was done manually which was a slow and labor-intensive task. This machine had hooks that pulled the fibers through a mesh that was too small for the seeds making the task much easier and faster.
