jan 1, 1868 - John Stringfellow
Description:
Stringfellow built several small steam engines and attempted to power some model monoplanes off the ground. He was close but unsuccessful. However, his most recognized work appeared in the form of a steam-powered triplane, a model of which was shown at the 1868 aeronautical exhibition sponsored by the Aeronautical Society at the Crystal Palace in London. A photo of his triplane.
