Elizabeth Cady Stanton: She fought for equal rights for women at work, school, and church. She was the leader in the suffrage movement. She organized the Seneca Falls Convention, where she wrote the Declaration of Sentiments based on the Declaration of Independence.
Seneca Falls Convention
- A convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York on July 19 and 20, 1848
- Ideas/Complaints from convention:
Were presented in the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions modeled on the Declaration of Independence stating that “All men and women are created equal.”
Equal rights included suffrage, which would give women political (voting) power.
