I believe that the 70 and 80-year references in Psalm 90:10 are for Israel's life EXPECTANCY (80 years by reason of strength). Some Biblical scholars saw 1997 as the 6000-year point for the probation of mankind, and the possible End of the Age.

I also believe that due to Numbers 14:20 and 14:34, Israel (and by extension the entire world) was given an additional 40 years, and constitutes the time period known as 'soon'. Since the 'breach of promise' is mentioned (see also Isaiah 30:26), I believe that 2037 brings us to the full 120-year warning period, and the end of the Age. 120 years total would then become Israel's life SPAN.

This 40-year delay may be another reason that Peter makes mention of the 6000-year doctrine (2 Peter 3:8), but also with a reminder that the Lord 'is not slack concerning his promise'...'but is longsuffering to usward' (2 Peter 3:9; see also Numbers 14:18).
