(Term 3) The Bonhomme Richard was a 900 ton naval vessel commanded by John Paul Jones. On August 23, he fought the British Warship HMS Serapis in a nightlong battle in which the British were eventually forced to surrender.1. John Paul Jones demonstrated perseverance by not giving up even when he was completely outgunned and outmanned. This served as an inspiration to other leaders and soldiers during the war and still inspires today.
2. This was one of the victories that helped convince the French to join the side of the Americans.
3. Showed that it doesn't matter who has better resources and an advantageous position. Faith, determination, and brilliant strategies are just as powerful at times.
