nov 15, 1777 - The Articles of Confederation
Description:
(Term 3) Meant to be an official constitution of the United States, these articles set laws and boundaries for the colonies that ended up creating a "loose confederation of states with a weak central government." It was replaced by the present day Constitution in 1789.
1. Teaches us that there does have to be a central power in a nation to maintain law and order. Without one, it's very easy to become divided.
2. Paved the path for the present day Constitution by showing what worked and what didn't work. They learned from the errors of the Articles of Confederation and were able to fix mistakes and change what had to be changed.
3. The Articles of Confederation established the first national United States government and was our first version of a Constitution. It likely gave people a sense of freedom and separation from the British.
