oct 19, 1781 - The Surrender at Yorktown
Description:
(Term 3) The Battle of Yorktown was the final battle of the Revolutionary War. General Cornwallis issued his surrender to Washington and his army on October 17 but did not attend the formal surrender.
1. Finalized the Americans' victory over the British and led to their independence. Without this event, there would be no United States of America today.
2. Resulted in the birth of a nation that would be the setting for the restoration of Christ's true church.
3. This event perfectly demonstrates the hand of the Lord intervening in history. The American people were completely outnumbered in every aspect, and yet were able to defeat the British in this final battle and gain independence at long last. Without the power of God on their side, I have no doubt the war's outcome would have been much different.
