Description:

This was a security pact formed between the United States and many countries of Wester Europe. Formally know as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, this council agreed to consolidate their power so that if one of the nations got attacked then it would be considered as an attack against the whole group. This was an important step in the Cold War for the United States as it showed that they had the power and Allies to compete with the Soviet Union. NATO formed a defensive of Western capitalists that were fully prepared to stop communism in its tracks.
