Description:

This was a report published by the Untied States National Security Council in response to Russia detonating their first atomic bomb. This report described the Soviet Union as a country with a "fanatical faith" that wished to impose its authority on everyone. It went on to basically say that the Soviets were aiming at dominating the whole Eurasian continent. This report also called for Americans to begin to pay more in taxes to fund an even greater military force and stronger bombs in the form of hydrogen bombs. This report was significant as it stirred up the American public and also set the United States military program on a fast track that would just lead to further tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
