may 1, 325 - Council of Nicaea
Description:
Constantine invited bishops to come to the royal palace in Nicaea, around 250-300 bishops attended. He presided over this council of the Christian church. This was the first ecumenical council; however, it wasn't entirely ecumenical. In this council, many bishops opposed Arius, and it was difficult to come to an agreement on a positive statement of the doctrine. They developed a creed of what could and could not be said.
