The Great Persecution began in 303 by instigation of Galerius but with full support of Diocletian. Four successful edicts were issued: Christian buildings and scriptures destroyed and anyone in court had to sacrifice, governors were ordered to arrest and imprison bishops, bishops could be released if they sacraficed, and sacrafices to gods were made obligatory by everyone.Added to timeline:
