mar 28, 1931 - Kanpur Riots
Description:
Violence had started as "an anti-English demonstration" after news of Bhagat Singh's execution spread on March 24, but quickly turned into a communal affray when Muslim shop keepers refused to close their shops as instructed by a resolution of the Kanpur congress. Overzealous Congress workers had attempted to forcibly close the stores, inflaming existing tensions and sparking a riot in which 400-500 people were killed.
