jan 1, 325 - Council of Nicaea
Description:
The overwhelming majority of bishops at this council opposed Arius, but there wasn't a common consensus on pretty much anything else. It was difficult to come to an agreement on a positive statement of doctrine, instead of being easier to get agreement on what people are against rather than what they are for. This council developed a creed of orthodox belief to set parameters on what could and could not be said of Christ. It's at this council we start to see the use of the Greek word homoousios.
