jan 1, 312 - Constantine Marches against Maxentius
Description:
In October of 312, Constantine marched against Maxentius, ruler of Italy and North Africa. The night before the decisive battle of his campaign, Constantine reportedly saw a sign in the sky- the first two letters of the name of Christ (chi-ro) and a voice accompanying that said, “In this, conquer”. They then went into battle with this emblem on their shields. Constantine and his army took the city of Rome, and Constantine was left as the sole emperor of the western region of the empire.
