Barnaby Joyce has demanded Amber Heard be probed for perjury after allegedly telling an assistant to lie about bringing her two dogs illegally into Australia.

Former Nationals leader Mr Joyce said action should be taken after it was heard in a London court that Heard had been warned not to bring in her pets.

'Is the defence for perjury that you have got to be able to act? 'What is the point of having laws if they are not pursued?' he told News Corp.

Depp's former assistant of eight years, Kevin Murphy, said Heard made him lie under oath when they were accused of bringing in the dogs illegally.

Mr Murphy claimed Heard told him: 'I want your help on this. I wouldn't want you to have a problem with your job'.

The assistant said he had told the actress several times over the phone, email and in person she was unable to bring the dogs.

Paperwork and the required ten day quarantine period had not been arranged for Pistol and Boo.
