may 13, 1944 - Whilst on his way to France, Rommel was strafed by a RAF Spitfire. Rommel’s driver was killed and Rommel was hit in the head and left unconscious. Rommel was rushed to the hospital while Hitler’s assassination attempt was carried out with little success. Rommel was suspected of conspiracy even though he was unconscious in the hospital and not involved in the plot. Rommel said that Hitler should have been arrested and trialed, not assassinated (Bigelow 230).
