-Steamboat transportation was more efficient than wind-powered boats and could travel upstream more quickly.
- Transportation and trade improved.
- Railroads, Roads, and Canals were other forms of transportation that were greatly improving how people/cargo traveled.
- In 1830 there were only 23 miles of the railroad but by 1860 there were over 30,000 miles of railroad.
- The railroad benefited the north
