Johnny Depp Accuses Ex-Lawyers Of Overcharging Him in $350,000 Battle
by Ryan Naumann
Johnny Depp is asking a judge to dismiss the lawsuit accusing him of refusing to pay $350,000 to his ex-lawyers.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Depp responded to the case filed by the firm Buckley LLP.
The actor denies all allegations of wrongdoing. He adds, “Defendants further deny that Plaintiff suffered damages as a result of the alleged wrongful conduct of Defendants, and further generally and specifically deny that Plaintiff is entitled to any remedy or relief, legal, equitable, or otherwise, in any sum whatsoever, as against Defendants.”
Depp accuses his former lawyers of charging “excessive and unreasonable” amounts. He is asking the court to dismiss all claims.
Back in May, Depp was sued by his former lawyers at the firm Buckley LLP. They accused him of refusing to pay up on a $347,979.89 bill.
They claimed to have sent off invoices totaling $535,697.29 (which included a 10% discount) but he only paid $187,717.39.
Despite promises for payment, they claim it never came. The suit seeks the entire unpaid balance.
The firm had been hired to represent the actor in his separate $30 million-dollar lawsuit against his former entertainment lawyers, Bloom Hergott LLP.
In that case, Depp accuses his lawyers of collecting $30 million in commissions over the years, without ever having a written agreement. The case will soon head to trial.
The actor is also set to face off with a crew member suing him over an alleged assault. He has been battling to keep his ex-Amber Heard and alleged drug use out of the trial.
