feb 24, 1989 - Tunnel reopening deemed too expensive
Description:
The college publishes estimates that a reopening of the tunnels would cost upwards of $278k ($631k adjusted), plus an additional $19,200 per year for security. A year later, students' publish a rebuttal in the Carletonian claiming that it can be done for $20,000 to $50,000, less than a fifth of Carleton's quote. Head of security, Wayne Eisenhuth, remains unconvinced by arguments about the cultural significance of the tunnels' artwork: "What is more important, personal safety or some paintings? You can look at paintings in Boliou."
