apr 14, 1948 - KRLX / KARL is founded through the tunnels
Description:
Originally called KARL, KRLX’s foundations depended largely on the tunnels. Student-built and student-run, the founders of KRLX had to run wiring through old, cobweb-filled tunnels; other founders, who were veterans from WWII, built the tech that ran KRLX’s station, which was dug out underneath the Lawrence McKinley Gould Library and began broadcasting in 1948 — their first broadcast was heard all the way in Iowa. KRLX has always been known for its broadcasting and DJ liberties, and about 15% of the student body is usually involved with keeping this historical radio station running and expressing Carleton creativity.
