feb 9, 2021 - Release of cybersecurity law draft v.1

Description:

On Feb 9, 2021, after 9 days of the attempted coup, the SAC started attempting to enact the draft “Cybersecurity Law”. The 36 pages long drafted bill was sent to MCPA and UMFCCI for recommendation with a deadline on Feb 15, 2021, which was an unusually tight deadline to expect a policy recommendation of a major legislation. We observed devastating urgency in this effort and also found out an irrelevant stakeholder approach that one of the stakeholders they approached, the UMFCCI, was rather an economic institution, not particularly expertised for cyber-related issues. However, the two organisations came up with their policy recommendations on how this law would negatively affect the ICT industry as well as the general public.
