jan 1, 1436 - Invention of the printing press.
Description:
In 1436, when a man named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, the impact it had on European history was both immediate and highly influential. Up until this point, the only people who learnt how to read where either exceedingly wealthy people or people in positions of power. Like the church. Most often both. THe printing press created a new initiative for common people to learn how to read as books became more affordable and easier to buy.
It had a very positive impact on the common people but not as much to the wealthier people in the society. The Serfs that took care of their land could now read their contracts, they could view their rights and many other negatives that made it harder and harder to run the corrupt societys they did.
