jan 1, 1215 - The Magna Carta
Description:
In 1215, after political pressure from many barons around the English countryside, a bill brought in by King John stated that the king and government were not above the law, the was to be no taxation without representation from a reliable source and many other laws still in place in many governments today.
The Magna Carta was a revolutionary step forward in fair politics and was the first of its kind.
The timing of when it was issued also played a part in its success. In the early 13th century the barons of england had taken london and, even though the king was against the bill, he was forced to sign as the barons agreed to surrender the city if they did.
