Description:

Italian leader Mussolini declared an alliance with Germany. Mussolini had plans to create a new Italian empire, and he knew the best way to do that was to ally with Hitler. The alliance was referred to as the Axis powers, and many see it as a German response to the Spain situation. The Italians immediately open up a north African front, and begin to expand their colonial empire. British and South African forces begin a desperate defence of the British holdings in Africa, and the war seems to enter a new era of brutal desert fighting.
