Harriet Tubman was an escaped slave and a ´conductor´ on the Underground Railroads. She fought for the abolishment of slavery alongside being for women's rights.

Fredrick Douglass was born into slavery in Maryland but later escaped to New York City. He was the publisher of an anti-slavery newspaper, The North Star.

Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin" (1852) was one of seven causes to The Civil War as it brought national attention to the cruelty of slavery.
