In 1807, Robert Fulton invented a new way of transportation, the steamboat. Fulton's invention quickly outdid wind-powered boats, and they increased transportation and trade.
Canals were man-made water routes, which helped in trade and transportation.
A frequently used canal was Erie Canal, a route between NYC and Buffalo, NY.
The national road was constructed with tax money from protective tariffs running from east to west. This road benefited the North but aggravated the South.
