jan 13, 1813 - Lowell Factories/Factory System
Description:
Samuel Slater introduced textile mills in 1793, machines which produced thread and cloth. Years later, Francis Cabot Lowell created the Lowell Factories in 1813. These factories specialized under the Textile Industry and allowed young girls to work and live in a town made up of Lowell Factories. Conditions of this factory were poor, as there were no child labor laws, no maximum amount of hours one must work, along with zero health benefits.
