Walt and Ub now need a new character to replace Oswald. Walt thinks of a mouse named Mortimer, but Lilly objects to the name and suggests the name Mickey. Ub Iwerks draws up the mouse and they begin animating him.
His first short "Plane Crazy" premiered on this date. The second one was called "The Gallopin' Gaucho". Both failed to find a distributor until their third short "Steamboat Willie" which was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon with sound.
After Steamboat Willie, the first two were rereleased with sound. Celebrity Productions became distrubuter.
