nov 3, 1861 - Battle of Port Royal
Description:
In the end, it was a Union victory, led by Samuel F. Du Pont. The North needed the harbor at Port Royal to use as a base for ships that were patrolling the nearby seas. In addition to this, they were also hoping to stop the South’s import of cotton and weapons. The Union was able to claim this victory because of their strong warships, and they had 5 times more men than that of the Confederates.
