Criticism cabled over from London of the compensation to be awarded to the syndicate which is underwriting the securities of the new shipping combine has excited interest in the history of the development of these syndicates, and the extent of their profits in this country. The present criticism is over the fact that the underwriting syndicate for this consolidation is to receive a bonus of $25,000,000 in common stock and $2,500,000 preferred.
