This in summary was a statement by Britain pledging support for the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people. Along with a genuine belief in the Zionism movement, the decision for support was influenced by a hope that this statement would help gain Jewish support for the Allies. This had no effect on the ongoing war, however in terms of post-war events its influence was immediate. The Treaty of Versaille stated that Britain was entrusted with Palestine.
