7h 53min, jul 2, 1776 y - The Declaration Of Independance

Description:

The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. It was declared on July 2, 1776, but was approved by Congress and signed on August 2, 1776. The purpose of The Declaration of Independence was for America to announce separation from Great Britain. If the Declaration of Independence hadn’t been, America wouldn’t have been its own country. It was signed by 56 representatives of the Continental Congress. In the beginning, not everyone agreed to declare independence. Some people wanted to wait until the Thirteen Colonies had secured a stronger alliance with foreign countries. During the first round of voting, Pennsylvania and South Carolina decided to vote "no" and Delaware and New York didn't wish to vote at all. The Congress wished for the vote to be unanimous, so they continued to talk about the issues. On July 2, South Carolina and Pennsylvania as well as Delaware switched to voting "yes". The decision to declare independence passed with 1 no vote and 12 yes votes (as New York chose not to vote). Finally, on July 4, 1776, Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence. Today, July 4th is celebrated in the United States as Independance Day.
