Description:
The Quebec Act was passed on June 22, 1774 but bacame effective on May 1, 1775. It gave French Canadians thorough religious freedoms and restored the French form of civil law. It helped to preserve French laws and customs. It restored French civil law and English criminal law to continue the use of the Seigneurial System. The Quebec Act was largely framed by Lord Guy Carleton, but not all of his policies and plans were incorporated in it. The Quebec Act enlarged the boundaries of the province of Quebec.
