Description:
Johnny Depp must undergo mental evaluation for 'compulsive spending disorder', his former managers say in counter-lawsuit over his 'wasted millions'
Johnny Depp's former management company has demanded in a lawsuit that he be psychologically evaluated for 'compulsive spending disorder.'
The request was the latest installment in the ongoing drama surrounding Depp's $25 million lawsuit against TMG, whom he fired in March 2016. He filed a lawsuit against them in April.
Now, in a counter-suit, the company has accused him of spending his money on 'everything other than the timely payment of his taxes' and said that might be the result of a psychological problem. The papers, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in California on Monday, say they want the star to be examined for 'compulsive spending disorder'.
That's an illness, first diagnosed in the early 20th century, that manifests in an urge to spend even to the point of adverse effects.
'Depp's flagrant bragging about his senseless and extreme spending to the Wall Street Journal is further evidence of his psychological issues,' the lawsuit said.
'It appears that Depp may suffer from a compulsive spending disorder, which will be proven in this action through a mental examination.'
Depp told the WSJ last month: 'If I want to buy 15,000 cotton balls a day, it's my thing.'
TMG says that by the time he fired them on March 2, 2016, Depp was racking up bills for $2 million a month - far more than his income could maintain.
He would spend his money on 'everything other than the timely payment of his taxes,' the company cattily remarked.
That included $30,000 a month on wines from around the world.
'Wine is not an investment if you drink it as soon as you buy it,' TMG said.
