4h 2min, dec 16, 1773 y - The Boston Tea Party

Description:

The Boston Tea Party was a protest by the colonists in America against the British Parliament. It was one of the main events leading up to the American Revolution. On the night of December 16, 1773, a group of American colonists approached three British ships in Boston Harbor. They were dressed up as Indians. Their mission was to destroy and get rid of all the tea on board each of the three British ships to protest against another British tax on the colonies. Tea was a very popular drink among the colonists and they were only allowed to buy tea from one British company. The colonists were also required to pay high taxes on this tea. This was called the Tea Act. The colonists didn't think it was fair that they didn't have a representative in the British Parliament and so they didn't have a say on how taxes should be done. The colonists refused to pay the taxes and requested that the tea be returned to England. When the British Parliament didn't listen, the colonists protested by throwing all the tea into the ocean. The British were shocked and outraged. They closed Boston Harbour and tried to gain even more control over the colonists.
