dec 26, 1876 - The Phonograph/Gramophone

Description:

The phonograph is a device, invented in 1877 for the mechanical recording and reproduction of sound. In 1887 the device was all called a Gramophone primarily in the UK. The phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison, the very same Thomas Edison who created electrical lights. Whilst many other inventors’ devices could record sounds, Edison’s phonograph was the first to be able to reproduce the recorded sound, his original idea recorded sound onto a tinfoil sheet wrapped around a rotating cylinder. Alexander Graham Bell’s Volta Laboratory made several improvements in 1880s including a wax coated cardboard cylinder.
