I would say the biggest breakthrough of the last 17 years is the creation of music streaming services; such as Spotify, Google Play Music, Deezer and beats Music. Which allow users to listen to ad-free full-length content (for a fee) without purchasing a physical copy of the record/single. Although many of these sites do have free options which allow users to listen to the singles off albums and have adverts in-between tracks. Deezer and Spotify were among the first streaming services to be created with the first versions arriving in early 2008.
