Description:
In response to the spread of communism, the United States wished to provide aid to struggling European countries in order for them to better fight communism. This first attempt was proposed by President Truman as the Truman Doctrine, which provided military and economic aid to both Greece and Turkey. These countries succeeded in fighting against communism, and other nations took this as something that they should do to.
