The Sony PSP was seen as a direct competitor to the Nintendo DS when Nintendo was arguably the most dominant handheld console manufacturer in the industry. The PSP was better than the DS in a few categories, such as raw specs and processing speed, but it did not really have a solid game library, and it was targeted towards a more mature audience.
