apr 6, 1865 - Sailor's Creek

Description:

April 6, 1865: On April 6, 1865, General Richard Anderson and his troops were attacked by Union cavalry under Major General George Crook at Marshall's Crossroad. The Union had captured many of Anderson's artillery pieces. The Union would've taken most of Anderson's men as well, but they all fled the battlefield. Anderson and Crook were only one out of the three battles that took place that day. The other two events that took place that day were also very similar. In all three events, the Union had overwhelmed the Confederacy. In another battle that occurred that day, the Union had taken about 1/4 of Robert E. Lee's army, including six Confederate generals. Sailor's Creek was a very big factor that helped Lee decide to surrender. Three short days before Lee surrendered, he wrote to President Jefferson Davis of the Confederate States, "a few more Sailor's Creeks and it will all be over."
