aug 26, 1789 - Declaration of the Rights of Man
When the National Constituent Assembly began to think of a plan to protect individual rights in the new nation, the solution was to create a document specifically protecting these rights. And on August 26th, 1789, it passed as the declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. The declaration became a cornerstone document of the French Revolution, and to some people, its greatest legacy.
