Description:

Hayes was granted office in exchange for withdrawing federal troops from the South that had been there to reinforce reconstruction policies. Republicans supported a bill subsidizing Texas and Pacific Railroad contrustion (promised but not kept). After this, the republcian party abandoned their commitment to racial equality and this compromise ended reconstruction.
