aka William Tweed, head of Tammany Hall political machine in New York (Democratic powerbase). Through fraudulent elections and overcharging for construction (such as the New York Courthouse which only cost $3 million but he charged $13 million) he stole $200 million from New Yorkers. The New York Times found evidence in 1871 and sent him to jail. The prosecution was led by James Tilden
