Description:

After celebrating Easter at Winchesterwith Edward and other nobles, Godwin was struck down speechless - probably with a stoke. He dies three days later. Harold takes over the Earldom of Wessex and is forced by the other great families to give up East Anglia to Aelfgar. Importantly, the death of Godwin does not lead to an increase of power for Edward. None of his exiled Norman friends come back and Stigand is not removed.
