On May 11, 2011, the Council of Europe came together to define and denounce violence against women. It has since been adopted by 45 countries.
In March of 2012, Turkey ratified the document to include further protections and definitions of domestic violence to include harassment, stalking, and honor killings. 34 countries followed this ratification process.
