Description:

In isolation on The Peak, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm and Monica Rambeau begin experiencing medical symptoms after their return from the test flight. Over the course of the following days, each of them begins exhibiting irregularities and undergo drastic transformations.

- Reed's bone, muscle, organ and cellular structure has changed to "pliable bacterial stacks," single cells which duplicate most of the larger functions of the human body, enabling him to convert the mass of his entire body into a highly malleable state at will.
- Sue's cells become highly absorbent and reflective, allowing her to render herself invisible.
- Monica is able to convert her body mass into any form of energy on the electromagnetic spectrum.
- Johnny's cells begin undergoing fuission.
- Ben's transformation was the most significant, with his skin replaced by a rock-like hide, impervious to harm. The mutagenic process caused his musculature, bone structure, internal organ composition, soft tissue structure, and skin to greatly increase in toughness and density.

They are each retrieved and taken to the Portcullis, in the Badlands.
